The President’s Executive Order issued in October 2017 directed the Secretary of Labor, within 60 days, to propose regulations or guidance to expand access to health coverage by allowing more Association Health Plans (AHPs). AHPs are intended to expand access to employer-sponsored coverage and help reduce the cost of health coverage by increasing bargaining power and creating new economies of scale.
The U. S. Department of Labor just released the proposed regulations in early January. There is now a comment period on the regulations, due in 60 days, by March 5, 2018. The AIA Trust will continue to monitor developments and any new plan offerings that may come into the marketplace after regulations are finalized. New information and programs will be announced in the quarterly AIA Trust newsletter Managing Your Risks and on TheAIATrust.com website.
