Term Life Insurance Policies
Explained
Term Life Insurance covers an individual
for a specified period of time, ranging from one year to several
years. It is payable to the beneficiary only if the insured dies
within that specified time period. Individuals purchase term life
insurance for a variety of reasons, including lower premiums than
permanent insurance (because there is no cash value), mortgage
protection, and coverage during child rearing years.
Most Term Life Insurance policies can be renewed
for one or more terms, regardless of any health changes. However,
premiums may increase each time the policy is renewed and some
policies expire when the insured reaches a certain age. Some
companies will grant you the option of keeping the policy in force
for a guaranteed period of time at the same rate each year. This
option typically carries a higher premium and usually requires the
individual to pass a physical examination.

How Much Life Insurance Do I
Need?
We should remember that life insurance is
primarily not for us- it is for the loved ones we will leave
behind. How much annual income will your family need to continue
their lifestyle when you are no longer with them?
To determine how much life insurance you need,
consider the following Remaining Expenses:
- How much is needed to take care of immediate expenses such as
burial costs, medical payments, estate tax settlements etc.?
- How much will be needed annually for continuing mortgage
payments, car payments, real estate taxes, college tuition, and
daily living expenses such as food, clothing, traveling etc.?
- What other annual expenses you are responsible for and are
presently contributing towards?
To avoid over-insurance you need to consider the
following Sources of Income:
- How much annual investment income will continue?
- How much annual income will my spouse receive?
- What is the value of any assets such as savings, CDs, etc.
that will be liquidated?
- What is the value of any other current life insurance in
force?
With these factors considered, you can
determine how much annual income your family will need generated
from any life insurance proceeds.
Your individual needs will vary based on your
circumstances. For more information, please call the toll-free AIA
Trust hotline 1-800-255-8215 between Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to
5 p.m. Central time.
For a further in depth discussion on how much life
insurance you need, we suggest you consult one of the many
independent resources available, such as The Life and Health
Insurance Foundation for Education. They are a non-profit
independent source for information on this topic, which includes
an interactive needs calculator. http://www.life-line.org/life/index.html.

how to prepare yourself for the unexpected—for as little as $0.31
a day.* AIA Trust is proud to introduce a new, highly competitive,

If you're under age 60 and an AIA member... you can apply for
coverage from $100,000—up to as much as $1,000,000. Coverage is
also available for your spouse (up to half of your benefit amount
to a maximum of $500,000, as long as he or she is under age 60) in
units of $10,000. And you may get $5,000 of coverage for your
unmarried, dependent children, ages 15 days to 25 years. (Please

Who Will Be My Beneficiary?
You can choose anyone you wish as your beneficiary and also change
your beneficiary at any time by written request. That person will
receive all the proceeds of your coverage in the event of your
death. (It could be a family member or a close friend.) You are
automatically the beneficiary for your dependent's coverage. If
you wish, you can name another beneficiary for your spouses'
coverage.
What Is The "Living
Benefit?"
The Living Benefit allows you to collect up to 50% of your
AIA-commended life insurance benefit if you are terminally ill,
with less than 12 months to live. You can spend your Living
Benefit any way you want... to handle medical expenses, purchase
conveniences, or take care of bills piling up at home. Your
beneficiary is still protected and will collect the remainder of
your life benefit upon your death. To qualify, a terminally ill
insured must provide New York Life with proof of terminal illness
and anticipated life expectancy (12 months or less), as well as
any other medically necessary information requested. For
additional details and limitations, please see the Certificate of
Insurance.
Please note that receipt of accelerated death
benefits may affect eligibility for public assistance programs and
may be taxable. Prior to applying for accelerated death benefits,
insureds should consult with the appropriate social services
agency, and assistance should be sought from a qualified tax
provider.
Minnesota residents must be under age 65 to
qualify. The accelerated death benefit is not available to
residents of Massachusetts.

Are There Any
Exclusions/Limitations?

handled in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act
procedures. MIB's information office is at P.O. Box 105, Essex

we can provide the coverage you requested we will inform you as to
when such coverage will be effective. Under no circumstances will
